Call to Worship, January 18 2015
We worship our God who knows neither accident nor fate. He made all things, including us, with His great skill. He is intimately acquainted with all our ways. We cannot flee from Him because He is everywhere in simultaneous perfection. He knows our next word before we speak it, where we will go before we make our plans, and our trials before they hit us. God not only knows all, but he ordained all. He determined our appointed times and the boundaries of our habitation (Acts 17:25-26). How wonderful He is that in His plan He predestined the salvation of many, including the means by which He would save them. He, also, foreordained the order of every occurrence to accomplish His work. “He who began a good work in you will perfect it”, wrote Paul, “until the day of Christ Jesus (Phil. 1:6b). Thomas Watson said, “Let us then ascribe the whole work of grace to the pleasure of God’s Will. God did not choose us because we were worthy, but by choosing us He makes us worthy.” He agreed with Paul’s words, “He predestined us to adoption as sons…also we have been given an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose…to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory.” (Eph. 1:5a & 11-12) Ultimately, God’s foreordaining plan includes the election of many sinners who will one day be presented holy and blameless before Him to the praise of His glory. So, we may now sing “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise.”
