Sunday Morning Calls to Worship

Call To Worship January 10 2016

We worship our God who gave His Law to men. The law was given as a gracious guide for living, then Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command. The law continued as a teacher for man to know his sin and recognize it as an abomination against the one Holy and living God. The Law, formerly heard from the voice of God, was etched onto stone tablets by Moses and presented to the nation Israel. They continued for ages sinning against God and He continued to be faithful in love and discipline. Israel walked in the consequences of their sin, while…

Call To Worship January 3, 2016

We worship our God who sustained us through the last year. Many joys were experienced among us and the Lord planned those joys. Some sadness was evidenced in our midst and the Lord used each trial. All of these types of providence were for our good and ultimately for His glory. We now come to the start of a new year in the kind providence of the one true living God. Let us come to worship Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. There is no better place to begin a new year than worshipping with God’s people….

Call To Worship December 20 2015

Let us worship Jesus, the Son of God, who was born of a virgin and laid in a manger. He lived perfectly, died a sinner’s death, was buried, was resurrected and ascended to be with God the Father. All of these truths form the foundation for salvation and the proper functioning of God’s people in the New Covenant. Jesus Christ descended from on high as the incarnate Messiah to accomplish redemption. Also, His descent meant His ascent would usher in the New Covenant church. Local bodies, with Jew and Gentile together, worshipped God, led by officers given by Christ. Those…

Call To Worship – December 13 2015

We worship the one living and sovereign God. He has authority over all of creation and all will submit to Him, although they are submitting in providence whether they think so or not. So it is with Paul’s use of Psalm 68 as he points to the authority of Christ. God gave all authority to His Son in whom He is well pleased. Furthermore, Paul revealed Christ’s authority specifically in and through the church. The authority that Paul said Christ inaugurated is made manifest through officers. Some in the body of Christ were specifically called as apostles and prophets, whose…

Call To Worship – December 6 2015

Today we come to worship our triumphant God who reigns over all of the cosmos. His authority knows no bounds on the earth or in all the heavens. Paul magnified this truth from Psalm 68 and focused the metaphor on the work of the Messiah. God gave the Son and He descended to the earth in His incarnation. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, lived sinless in His humanity and in accord with His perfect deity. He was tempted in every sense in His humanity, but He never sinned. His life led Him all the way to the cross…

Call To Worship – November 22 2015

We worship our one God whose essence establishes the unity of the church. “The Lord our God is but one only living and true God; whose subsistence is in and of Himself…In this divine being their three subsistences, the Father, the Word (Son), and the Holy Spirit, of one substance, power and eternity, each having the whole divine essence, yet the essence undivided.” The London Baptist Confession is stating the oneness of the Triune God. As He is one living God in three persons, His essence or being is not divided into parts. So, His unity in being is the…

Call to Worship – December 15 2015

We worship our Triune God who set fast the foundation of our unity in gospel truth. No other unity exists for the Christian, but in the understanding of the biblical gospel. Paul sought to express the importance of unity and peace not in an abstract manner, but through the doctrine previously taught to the believers in Ephesus. Jews and Gentiles alike were brought into the covenant through the salvific work of the Triune God. It was necessary for them to come together in the unity of the gospel and live in peace with one another in the church. Furthermore, Paul…

Call To Worship November 8 2015

We worship our God who calls us to walk worthy of our calling in Christ Jesus. Cain and Abel were called to offer a sacrifice to God. God was pleased with Abel’s sacrifice, but “he had no regard” for Cain’s sacrifice. The text is not explicit as to the reason for God’s displeasure. Yet, no matter the reason, God was displeased and Cain’s reaction tells the whole story. Cain was angry and his countenance fell. Cain probably knew the reason for God’s displeasure, but even if he did not, a true worshipper would have submitted to the correction of the…

Call To Worship October 25 2015

We worship our God who revealed to us what to believe and how to live. God gave His church objective doctrine, which directs believers to the imperatives of the Christian life.  Paul bridged the gap between doctrinal facts and faithful Christian living as he wrote the second half of his letter to the Ephesians. He established the necessity of right doctrine and practice. Neither precise doctrine nor proper practice are mutually exclusive, but both are necessary for the Christian. Paul previously focused his hearers on the one true God. In chapter four Paul turns the focus to his commands for…
